Chapter 833
Chapter 833:
However, Theresa had been hiding her excitement very well. Armand couldn’t say anything.
She seemed quite calm and he couldn’t tell if she was happy or angry. She whispered, “It’s okay.”
The strength Armand had feigned collapsed instantly. He wondered if she could detach herself from him so completely.
For a moment, bitterness and pain surged in her heart. She forced a smile, “It’s okay.”
He pulled out his phone and called his co-worker. The call was soon answered, “Please bring the divorce agreement I asked you to draft last night to the coffee shop across the street from our law firm.”
His co-worker replied. He hung up the phone.
Theresa could see that something emotional was going through his eyes. However, when Armand hung up the phone and looked at her, his eyes were quite calm.
“Is Mrs. Bernie ill?” Elizabeth behaved very strangely.
She did not address Elizabeth as grandmother because she still had a knot in her heart.
Armand emitted a “hmm,” “She has Alzheimer’s disease.”
Theresa could sense his helplessness in his tone, “It’s okay. I just have to spend more time taking care of her,” he added.
Theresa was surprised, “How can that be?”.
Not long ago, Elizabeth had seemed quite cheerful. Theresa couldn’t understand why she was suddenly ill, apparently very seriously.
Armand said, “She’s getting older. That’s quite normal.”
“It must be quite difficult for you. He had to be very careful in caring for Elizabeth. Besides, Armand was his grandmother’s only relative. No one else could share the burden with him.
Armand’s lips parted, “When I was little, she raised me. Now that she has grown old, I must take care of her. It is my responsibility. My grandfather passed away a long time ago, and my parents left in a shameful way. She has suffered many hardships in her life. I understand her, so I have always been obedient and respectful to her. You have been very wronged.”
Theresa had probably put it behind her by now, so she didn’t want to be bothered by her past, “Let’s forget the past.”
“However, the damage to you cannot be erased. I apologize on her behalf.” Armand looked at her deeply.
At that moment, the waiter served them drinks. Theresa wanted to tell him that she would not blame Elizabeth since they had broken up. However, when the waiter approached, she swallowed her words. Then she picked up the water and took a sip.
Armand thought for a while and added, “After we get divorced, if you can meet a good man who can take care of you…”
“I’ll consider marrying him,” Theresa interrupted him.
Armand lowered his head, “After all, it’s all my fault.”
“Please stop saying those words,” Theresa turned around and looked out the window, “Why hasn’t your co-worker come in yet?”
Armand said, “I don’t know. Let me call him again.” Then he picked up the phone. As he was about to dial the number, his phone started ringing.
He slid his finger to answer, only to hear exclamations from the other end of the line,
“Bad news, Mr. Bernie. Bad news. Your grandmother has rolled down the stairs.”
“What happened?” Armand got up immediately.
“She said she was thirsty and asked me to pour her a glass of water. As I was giving him the water, he headed for the stairs and fell down them.”
“I got it.” Armand hung up the phone.
“What happened?” Theresa faintly heard that someone had fallen.
Armand didn’t hide it from her, “Grandma fell down the stairs. I have to go back.”
“I’ll come with you.” After all, it was a matter of life and death.
Armand looked at her gratefully and did not speak. He left the café in long strides. After paying the bill, Theresa trotted to follow him.
The ambulance had arrived. They took Elizabeth out of the company. Armand ran over. The receptionist was frightened and couldn’t stop crying. Seeing Armand, she immediately explained, “Mr. Bernie, I didn’t mean to do it.”
Armand asked her to keep an eye on Elizabeth, but she fell down. The receptionist felt she should take responsibility.
Armand ignored her and followed the doctors to the ambulance. Although Theresa was quite worried, she did not follow them. Soon she would have nothing to do with Armand, so she didn’t think she should get involved in his affairs. Standing in front of the ambulance, she took one look at Armand and prepared to leave. At that moment, Elizabeth called her name.
Armand rushed to grab Elizabeth’s hand. Her face was covered in blood. A doctor was bandaging her to stop the bleeding.
“Theresa…” he called her name again.
Theresa turned her face again. Just at this moment, Elizabeth’s mind seemed to be quite clear. Giving Theresa a look, she said, “I’m sorry.”
Although Theresa had many complaints toward her, just at that moment, looking at Elizabeth, looking at her wrinkled face and teary eyes, Theresa could not blame her at all.
She said to comfort Elizabeth, “I don’t blame you, Mrs. Bernie.”
“She doesn’t blame me. She doesn’t blame me…” Elizabeth murmured to repeat herself. She lay back down and said to Armand, “She doesn’t blame me.”
Armand glanced at Theresa. Their gazes met in the air. The doctor closed the door to block their gazes. Soon, the ambulance roared away.
Theresa pulled out her phone and texted Armand, “Please let me know when Mrs. Bernie is okay.”
Soon, she received Armand’s reply, “Sure.”
Theresa hailed a cab and wanted to see Dolores’ baby at the villa. The cab stopped in front of the villa and she paid the fare. A jeep pulled up as the cab left. She looked back, only to find that Noah and Chloe were getting out of it. Noah asked Chloe to be careful, and Chloe smiled and said, “Get the stuff out of the back seat.” Noah pulled out several boxes.
Theresa greeted them with a smile, “Hi, guys. I see you brought some items for the baby, are you here to see the baby?”. Chloe nodded.
“Let’s go in together,” Noah said.
Theresa said yes.
At the villa, Dolores was talking to Coral.
“Mrs. Nelson, could you take a look at what kind of medicine this is?”. When Coral was cleaning Jayden’s room, she accidentally knocked over a medicine bottle. She knew the words on the bottle, but she didn’t know what the medicine was for. She had seen those empty bottles in Jayden’s room last time.
Dolores didn’t know either, “Let me see,” she said.
She pulled out her phone and searched the browser. Just then, they heard the doorbell ring. Coral went to open the door. Dolores was alone, reading the search results.
The longer she stared at the phone, the paler she became. Her hands were shaking as she held the phone. She was shocked.noveldrama
How could it be?
“Excuse me, Mrs. Nelson. Miss Gordon and Mr. Harris…. What happened?”
Coral was standing in the doorway. Before she finished her words, she checked to see that Dolores was quite pale.
He went inside. Dolores hurried to put her phone away and looked at her,
“Excuse me, please?”
“I said we have guests,” Coral replied.
Dolores said, “I see. Please receive them for me. I’ll be out later.”
