Chapter 47
Chapter 47:
She thought she could be very calm. When she heard Matthew’s reminder, she was mentally prepared, but when she saw Randolph now, the memories of the past that were hidden in her heart, the hurts and pains, were always there.
She thought she had gotten over it but, in reality, she had not.
Randolph’s face took on a slightly frightened expression. But now he was the one who had to plead with the others, and since he had already lost face, why keep his dignity?
‘Wham,’ he knelt at Dolores’ feet, “Lola, the company is about to close as there is a collapse during the project. People are harmed and there is a conflict with the owners. Besides daddy has no solution anymore, help daddy for once.”
At first, he was facing a lawsuit for the project and now it even involved people’s lives. It was fortunate that Dolores gave him the Repulse Bay contract so he could sell it and get some money. He compensated the family of the people who died with a large sum of money and managed to solve this problem privately.
However, regarding the collapse during the project, the relevant department was very strict about it. It would inevitably be held accountable.
The company could not earn revenue that could cover a large amount of money invested in this project. So the company’s capital chain was fractured and the company faced closure.
Dolores looked at the man kneeling at her feet. Her hands clenched tightly and trembled. She didn’t want to admit the father-daughter relationship with him, she didn’t want to admit that she had been hugged by him and she didn’t want to admit that she used to affectionately call him daddy.
Such a man knelt on his knees at that moment.
To say she had no feelings would be a lie. She really wasn’t that hard-hearted.
Dolores said nothing. Randolph thought she had refused, so her eyes flashed with anger and resentment, “I’ve already done what you said last time. Beulah and I divorced, she left without taking any money with her since I didn’t give her any.”
This was one of the reasons why Beulah went crazy. Before she married
Randolph, she was a waitress with no money and no power. After she married Randolph, she never went out to earn money, but merely lived the lifestyle of a noblewoman.
How could she survive from her divorce without receiving any money?
She had mingled with the circle of upper-class women before.
She was not willing to do that kind of inferior work again.
She had already become accustomed to living a high-class lifestyle.
Besides, Randolph blamed her for the issue that was happening to the company, saying that the reason the company was in such a crisis was that she had angered Matthew. She did not let Matthew become her ally but, on the contrary, let him become an enemy who was hurting them.
Randolph also told her of Dolores’ words that Dolores would help him through the company’s difficulties as long as he divorced her.
So he forcibly took her to the Office of Civil Affairs to divorce her.
And Beulah blamed Matthew for all this. If he hadn’t pretended to be crippled and deceived others, how could she let Randolph bring Dolores and her mother from abroad?
If he hadn’t pretended, she wouldn’t have let Dolores marry him.
And everything else wouldn’t happen. She wouldn’t have to fear Dolores’ revenge until she frantically tried to win Matthew’s heart for her daughter, she wouldn’t end up with nothing and divorced without taking any money with her.
This was all Matthew’s fault.
If he didn’t play lame, everything would be different now.
Dolores wanted to laugh but didn’t succeed. She felt that this man was still as ruthless as in the past.
In the past, it was her and her mother. Now, it was Beulah.
“Lola, Daddy is sorry, he really is. He shouldn’t have abandoned you and your mother.” Randolph’s eyes turned red and he was on the verge of tears. “If it hadn’t been Beulah who had a baby in her womb last time, I wouldn’t have been so unforgiving. You’re right too, you were ten at the time but your mother never got pregnant again. I’m a man, I needed a son…”
“Enough!” Dolores couldn’t stand his words any longer. son? son?
She boiled with so much hatred that her fingernails were almost embedded in her palm, but she didn’t notice.
Her whole body was shuddering.
Matthew, who was standing near her, noticed her agitation. He reached out his uninjured hand to hold hers, wrapping it tightly in his palm.
His palm was broad, firm and warm.
It could inexplicably calm one’s mind.
Dolores’ mind gradually calmed down.
“Get out of here first.”
“Lola…”
“Stop talking, if you say one more word, I won’t even consider helping you!” Dolores screamed. Her emotions were somewhat uncontrollable as she could easily become agitated.
Perhaps it was because the things done by Randolph could barely keep her from becoming agitated.
“Calm down.” Matthew grabbed her by the shoulder.
Randolph wanted to say something, but Matthew interrupted, “If you want to get help, leave now!”.
Although Randolph was reluctant, he also dared not to stand there anymore.
The room quickly fell silent. Coral, who stood next to him, also dared not utter a word. At first he thought it was a family bond where a father came to see his daughter. She had not expected such enmity between father and daughter.
Coral’s heart ached for Dolores.
When parents divorced, it was always the child who was hurt the most.
Dolores wiped tears from her face, “It’s shameful for you to see all this.”
She lowered her head and her hair had covered most of her face.
Matthew pursed his lips and said nothing to comfort her.
Indeed, some matters could not be easily forgotten with a few words of comfort.
Least of all these kinds of affairs.
As much as she hated Randolph, seeing him in such a miserable state would definitely not feel good.
“What do you want to eat? I’ll fix it for you if you want.” Coral changed the subject, trying to break the ice.
Dolores appreciated Coral and said, “I want to eat something sweet.”
After being pregnant, she didn’t like sour and spicy food, but preferred sweet food.
“Well, today I bought fresh ribs. I can make sweet and sour ribs and boil a sweet soup for you.” Coral turned and headed for the kitchen. When she got to the door, she looked back at the two people on the couch and smiled.
When Coral left, the living room was silent for a while.
“Are you the one who did that?” she said in an unknowing tone of question.
“What?”noveldrama
Dolores raised her head to look him in the eye. People always said that businessmen did something immoral, was he like that too?
Achieving goals by devious means?
Even harming human lives?
“What do you mean?” Matthew raged. He thought he was calm but spoke without calm, “You think the case involving human lives is related to me?”
The surrounding was silent for three seconds, “Don’t you?”
Suddenly, Matthew clenched his jaw, “In your opinion, what kind of person am I?”
He did something to make the Flores Group disappear.
The Flores Group was already like an old building next to a tornado where it would collapse with just a gentle nudge. So, was it reasonable for her to put so much effort and even do something that would harm human lives?
In fact, she thought it had been him who had done it.
She suspected him twice today. The first time was that she suspected he had actually done something to Annabelle when she was at the Flores Family that day.
And now she suspected that he had harmed human lives to achieve his goal.
How does she see it?
Meeting his eyes that flashed with fury, Dolores felt she might say the wrong thing, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to suspect you.”
Matthew gasped but the strength in his hand didn’t seem to lessen.
He was still angry that she suspected him.
His jaw ached and felt like it was dislocated because her fingers were squeezing it hard. She said nothing and asked for no mercy, but merely endured the pain in silence.
Seeing her silent resistance, Matthew’s anger was fading.
His face came closer to her, “If you dare to indiscriminately suspect me in the future, I …”
